Spotlight on: JUNIOR Musical Theatre Performance
Fall 2019/Winter 2020
Ages 7 - 11
Saturdays, beginning September 14, 2019 10am-1pm*
Performance dates January 18th & 19th, 2019
Classes include instruction in acting, dance, and proper vocal technique. From learning how to audition to mastering the art of character development, our students develop the essentials of musical theatre through the process of preparing for a full-scale, Broadway style play. Collaboration and individual skill building are woven through each class, and while not rehearsing students are working on skills that not only foster their talent, but their abilities to communicate, work with others, express themselves and build self-confidence.The production is the end result of our work, and is open to the public. We perform at the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall in downtown Riverhead. Costumes, make-up, sets, lights, and a full house make this experience one your student will never forget!
*Classes will increase in time as we near production date. Students should plan for extended Saturday hours beginning in late November/early December and should be available after school (4:30-7:30) Monday January 13 - Friday January 17 for technical and dress rehearsals. Students should be available the entire weekend of January 18-19th, 2019. There will be a limit on how many classes each student can miss. If your child will miss more than three classes, they will be cast an ensemble role only. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Classes will not be held on November 30th (Thanksgiving Break) and December 28th (Christmas Break)
Tuition $695 ($195 deposit required to register)
Class size will be limited
Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime).
Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold — not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
Seussical KIDS is great fun for the whole family. Young performers will be excited to portray the characters from the popular Dr. Seuss books.
